What inspired you to write Taste of Life?
At first it was the desire and need to leave my clients with a piece of my catering company upon the events completion. And since they enjoyed my food, I thought a cookbook would work well. But with my personality, it grew to more than that. I wanted to leave a piece of more than just Fleurimond Catering.I wanted to leave a piece of Nadege. Hence why a Taste of Life was born.
How would you describe Taste of Life?
Part Novel, part cookbook, part romance novel, part self-help and completely real. My manager once asked me, where in the bookstore would this book be found. I have never been one to stick within pre-set guidelines. And I had no intention to start with this book. But, the question forced me to seriously think about the content of the book. It reflects me. It is written by me. The stories are a reflection of my views, ideas and biases. So, perhaps autobiographical/memoir cookbook would be the best description for a Taste of Life. But I wouldn’t be satisfied with that answer. As much as these stories are about me and my experiences, I think so many people will be able to relate. Hence, why I think the best description of the book is stated in the title. It;s a Taste of Life: mine, yours and anyone elses. You have various characters in the book, was anyone upset about what you wrote about them?
I did not let my friends or anyone else read the book as I was writing. I figured they could yell at me later. This book is a positive book, so I had no intentions of airing out any dirty laundry. Of course perhaps there are certain character descriptions that I’m sure some will not agree with, however, this book is from my point of view. No where do I claim that point of view to be a real one, other than my own reality. However, one word that all my friends describe me as is fair. So I think for the most part, they entrusted their characters in my hands.Where do you go from here?
Catering, Cooking parties, dinners with friends, great parties and of course GREAT FOOD! in terms of work, we will see soon enough. But I definitely enjoy writing. And I plan on sharing more with my friends, family and even those strangers I have yet to meet.
